Uma vez que os espantalhos apenas afugentam alguns animais, talvez um
agricultor consciencioso se tenha sentido na obrigação moral de alertar
os ladrões de espigas de milho, pois o milheiral havia sido sulfatado na
véspera com um pesticida (o tal "veneno" referido na tabuleta)?
Estas fotografias foram tiradas em Agosto de 2013, durante uma volta de bicicleta, numa zona próxima da aldeia de Casal de São Tomé, situada na Freguesia e Concelho de Mira.
One conscientious farmer:
As we all know, the scarecrows only scare a few animals, and the humans who like to steal corn ears are not one of these animals. In the case shown in these pictures, an unknown conscientious farmer felt the obligation to give a warning to the corn thieves, because a pesticide was applied in the corn field, a few days earlier.
The writings in the plaque, "Não me responsabilizo. Têm veneno. Atenção!", can be translated to "I don't take responsibility (don't blame me in court). (The plants) have "poison" (in the portuguese country slang, "poison" is a slang word to pesticides). Attention!".
