O Miradouro da Bandeira e a Gândara!

A Região da Gândara, com as suas planícies costeiras de baixa altitude, de solo maioritariamente arenoso, é delimitada a Sul pela Serra da Boa Viagem. Apesar da designação de Serra, este conjunto montanhoso ocupa uma área reduzida e apenas atinge 261,88 metros de altitude no seu ponto mais elevado. Contudo, vários factores tornam-na particularmente interessante. A cidade da Figueira da Foz (na foz do Rio Mondego), na parte Sul da Serra. O Cabo Mondego, na sua zona mais Ocidental. As formações rochosas, algumas com grande interesse geológico. A riqueza em vestígios fósseis. A sua beleza paisagística, cuja cobertura vegetal, infelizmente, tem sido fustigada por alguns incêndios. O contraste paisagístico com as planícies costeiras baixas que a rodeiam a Sul e a Norte. A vista que se alcança dos seus pontos mais elevados…

E é na parte Norte da Serra da Boa Viagem que se localiza o Miradouro da Bandeira (na Freguesia de Quiaios e Município da Figueira da Foz). Está situado a aproximadamente 250 metros acima do nível do mar, no cimo de uma encosta que desce quase a pique para Norte. A partir do Miradouro, em dias com boa visibilidade (com sol e sem nevoeiro ou nuvens baixas), consegue-se avistar quase toda a Região da Gândara.

Para auxiliar o visitante na sua observação, existe no Miradouro um grande painel de azulejos, com uma pintura legendada da paisagem que daí é possível avistar. Publico algumas fotos que tirei durante o ano de 2008.

The Gândara Region, with its low-lying coastal plains, mostly composed of sandy soil, is bounded on the south by the "Serra da Boa Viagem" (can be translated to "Mountain Range of The Good Voyage/Travel"). Although having the designation of "Mountain Range" ("Serra" in Portuguese), it has a small area and only reaches 261.88 meters above sea level at its highest point. However, several features make this Serra particularly interesting. The city of Figueira da Foz (in the mouth of the River Mondego), is located in the southern part of the Serra. The Cabo Mondego (a Cape), in the westernmost area. The rocky formations, some with great geological importance. The wealth in fossil remains. The beauty of its landscapes, whose vegetal cover, unfortunately, has been damaged by some fires. The landscape contrast, with the low-lying coastal plains that surround the Serra, in the South and North. The magnificent view from its highest points ...

And it is in the northern part of the Serra where is located in the "Miradouro da Bandeira" (Scenic Overlook of the Flag), in the civil parish of Quiaios and municipality of Figueira da Foz). It is situated approximately 250 meters above sea level, perched on a slope that falls almost sheer to the north. From the Overlook, on days with good visibility (with sun and without fog or low clouds), can be sighted almost the whole Region of Gândara.

To assist the visitor in his observation, there is a large tile panel in the Overlook, with a painting of the landscape (with geographical data). The pictures were taken during the year of 2008.
