Num anterior post deste blog, fiz um resumo histórico da Praia da Tocha (localidade também conhecida por Palheiros da Tocha), que incluiu as suas habitações tradicionais, os Palheiros da Praia da Tocha (clicar aqui para ler o post). Contudo, esses Palheiros quase desapareceram por completo da localidade durante as últimas décadas, por razões aí explicadas. E os que restam são na sua maioria, ou réplicas modernas, ou construções de características "híbridas", de transição entre os velhos Palheiros e as habitações modernas.
Esta interessante arquitectura popular de transição reveste-se de importância e beleza estética. No geral, estes “Palheiros Híbridos” são caracterizados pelas suas dimensões ainda modestas, bem como pela mistura de materiais de construção tradicionais (madeira e adobes) e modernos (cimento, tijolos e ferro).

The "Palheiros" and traditional houses of Tocha Beach!
As i said in an earlier post, about the history of Tocha Beach (aka Palheiros da Tocha), and the"Palheiros" (click here to read the post), today there are very few of the traditional "Palheiros of Tocha Beach", as most have been demolished or fell in ruins, during the last 50 years, to give place to modern houses.
And of the few in existence, most are, or modern replicas, or "hybrid constructions", in transition between the original Palheiros and the modern houses.
This interesting folk architecture of the "Hybrid Palheiros", or "Transition Palheiros", has its importance and aesthetic beauty. In general, they are characterized by their small dimensions (still modest), and the mixture of building materials, the traditional wood, and the modern ones (cement, bricks and iron).
The photos were taken in the years of 2008 to 2012.
